Call for Presentations

 

Research Presentation Categories

 

Submission deadline is Thursday, April 9, 2009 for all categories.

 

Registration is required even if you are going to present in the categories below.

 

Posters

Basic Science Research Posters: (Students, Residents, Fellows) This poster presents scientific data and does not require any immediate application to the practice of medicine.  The IMRAD (Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion) format is generally used. 

Clinical Case Report (Vignette) Poster: (Students, Residents, Fellows) The Clinical Case Report (Vignette) Poster is a case based descriptive format designed to teach one important clinical lesson.  The teaching point is illustrated with a case.  There is no collection or analysis of data.  A usual format is Introduction, History, Physical, Laboratory and/or X-ray, Course and Discussion.  A discussion section uses the clinical literature to validate the content.

Social Science/Humanities/International Health Poster: (Students, Residents, Fellows) A Humanities or Social Science Poster attempts to teach a lesson from the social studies or humanities. It need not include the collection or analysis of data.

Clinical Research Poster: (Students, Residents, Fellows) A clinical research poster requires the collection of clinical data and its analysis.  A clinical research poster is typically formatted in the IMRAD format (Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion).  The topic relates to the practice of medicine.

Oral Presentations

Pre-Clinical Science Oral Presentations (by invitation only): Student research presentations are given by senior students who present a clinically relevant overview of their research. Presentations include a brief background, definition of terms, overview of the literature, discussion of relevant data, and implications for clinical application.

Clinical Case Report (Vignette) Oral Presentation: This category is open to all medical students and by invitation only for residents and fellows.

 

We encourage you to participate in one of these categories. Each category will be judged and awards will be presented at the end of the Research Symposium.
