Registration – First, Second, and Third Year Medical Students
The Student Affairs, Medical Scholars Program (SA/MSP) office will register all first, second, and third year medical students for their Colege of Medicine (COM) classes. In addition, M-1 students must make certain they are enrolled in the testing software, Benware. To do this, go to www.med.illinois.edu and click on M1 in the orange border, then under the orange heading 'Exams' select 'On-line Exams'. All courses for which a student is enrolled through Benware will appear. If there is a missing course or a course listed that the student is not taking, please contact Dean Susan Kies or Sonya Grindley in 255 Medical Sciences Building.
Registration – Fourth Year Medical Students
The SA/MSP office will also register fourth year medical students but, since schedules in fourth year vary so much, we can only do so if you let us know your schedule. Please send us this information when requested since if you are not registered by the deadline you may be charged late fees, be charged incorrect tuition, be denied access to campus facilities such as ARC, and need to complete paperwork. Please see ‘Clerkships’ below for information about adding/dropping rotations.”
Registration – MSP Students
MSP Students will be responsible for registering themselves for their graduate work at UIUC. MSP students are no longer able to register themselves for filler hours at either campus. The SA/MSP office will take care of this. Registration procedures for MSP students can be found on-line at https://www.med.illinois.edu/MSP/Registration/.
MSP Students requesting M-1 classes must complete the MSP Student Registration & Approval Form at https://www.med.illinois.edu/MSP/registration/. Once requests have been approved, the SA/MSP office will register MSP students for approved M-1 courses. There will be no approval to join Anatomy after the class begins. MSP students may join other courses within the first two weeks of instruction.
Students registering late will be assessed a University Late Registration Fee.
Adding, Dropping, and Rescheduling Classes:
Decompressing M-1 – First year medical students should be aware of the policy for decompression of the first year curriculum. The deadline to decompress is five days after the results of the second set of examinations for the fall semester are released.
MSP Students taking M-1 Classes – The deadline for MSP students to drop an M-1 class for fall only or year-long courses is five days after the results of the second set of examinations for the fall semester are released. The deadline for MSP students to drop spring-only courses is five days after the results of the spring mid-terms are released.
M-2 – Students enrolled in the second year of the medical curriculum cannot drop individual classes.
Clerkships – Students are not allowed to reschedule core or elective clerkships without appropriate approvals from the clerkship/department involved, their Clinical Faculty Advisor, and the Office of Student Affairs using the form found at

Completed forms with appropriate approvals must be submitted to the Office of Student Affairs at least 30 days PRIOR to the starting date of the clerkship or the request will not be considered.
Graduate work – UIUC campus deadlines to add and drop graduate work can be found at http://illinois.edu/calendar/Calendar?calId=524. To add/drop classes after the UIUC campus deadline, students will be required to contact the department of the class(es) in which they are enrolled or wish to be enrolled and complete the appropriate departmental paperwork.
