Author’s Note: The Office of Advancement is proud to profile, through a series of short articles, College of Medicine faculty members who have received various grants, awards and special distinctions during the 2011-2012 school year for professionalism, dedication and achievements in their respective fields of science and medicine.
Howard Berenbaum, Ph.D., Professor of Psychiatry
Elected President of the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science
Dr. Berenbaum admits he had some initial concerns over assuming the position of APCS President.
“Given how busy I already was, I had some concerns about taking on the additional responsibilities,” he said.
Focusing on the field of clinical psychiatry, Dr. Berenbaum is dedicated to research, teaching and service in the areas of emotions and psychopathology, and how the two intersect. He has also been actively involved with the APCS since attending its first meeting in 1995, and had previously served on the organization's Executive Committee.
All reservations aside, however, Dr. Berenbaum was “honored to be nominated and was then thrilled to be elected.”
Over the next three years as President, Dr. Berenbaum hopes to bring more opportunity and cooperation to the academy.
“I would like to increase the number of internship programs involved in the Academy and improve communication between doctoral programs and internships,” he said.
