Policy for Dress Code and Personal Appearance

PURPOSE: To provide clear guidelines for resident professional appearance on duty with adherence to safety and infection control.

Scrub Attire

In compliance with infection control, scrubs must not be worn outside of, nor removed from, hospital premises.  Scrubs may be worn in Surgery, the Emergency Room and for night call.  In Continuity Clinic and all patient areas, a clean lab coat with name tag must be worn over scrubs.

Lab Coats and Name Badges

Residents must always appear professional; neat and well groomed, with official name badge displayed.  A clean pressed lab coat is worn on most clinical services, with exceptions to be approved by the supervising faculty.  The name badge is to worn shoulder height with picture visible.
