Policy on Leave

PURPOSE:  To assure that resident absence from the curriculum is managed in a way that supports the welfare and career progress of the resident physician, maintains an educational environment, is compliant with policies and procedures of the relevant specialty boards and the policies and procedures of the sponsoring and the major affiliated institutions.

POLICY: Each program will develop and post its leave policy and procedure so that it is easily accessible to residents and faculty.  The policy should clarify leave for vacation, US military duty, professional interviews, illness, professional conferences, and family – including birth, adoption, and bereavement.
