Policy on US Military Duty


U.S. military leaves of absence and any extensions of military leave will be administered in relation to the specific circumstances and applicable law.

Residents scheduled for reserve or military training or duty should notify the program director and provide a copy of their military orders as soon as practical.  While on military leave, residents will continue to be paid by the College of Medicine to the extent that they apply allocated leave time to the military leave.

The trainee requesting leave for military requirements is eligible to continue paying for his or her health and dental benefits as defined by the provisions of current law.

Depending on the length of leave and individual certifying board requirements, training time may be extended.

At the end of active military duty the resident will be reassigned to his or her former position in the program.
