PURPOSE:To define the education requirements for program completion.
POLICY:
Residents must satisfactorily complete 36 months of full-time medical residency education.
Scholarly Activity: Residents must complete the research curriculum requirements.
Competencies: Each resident will demonstrate competence in the six core competencies- Medical Knowledge, Patient Care, Practice Based Learning and Improvement, Systems Based Practice, and Professionalism.
Continuity Clinic: Residents must complete 108 weekly sessions of continuity clinic in 36 months.
Emergency Medicine: Residents must complete 4 weeks of emergency medicine in no less than 2-week blocks. No resident may do more than 3 rotations in emergency medicine over three years.
Inpatient Internal Medicine: Residents must complete at least 6 rotations in inpatient general internal medicine as an intern and a minimum of 6 additional inpatient internal medicine rotations
Critical Care: Residents complete a minimum of 3 critical care rotations in 36 months. Clinical Investigator Track residents complete a minimum of 2 rotations in critical care. No resident may complete more than 6 rotations in critical care.
Subspecialties: Rotations in each of the subspecialties of internal medicine is offered. Residents must complete a rotation in Cardiology, Pulmonary and Gastroenterology.
Geriatrics: Residents must complete the curriculum in Geriatrics.
Others Subspecialties: Residents must complete one rotation in ambulatory medicine including experience in psychiatry, dermatology, medical ophthalmology, office gynecology, otorhinolaryngology, non-operative orthopedics, and rehabilitation medicine
Each resident must complete procedures, technical skills, testing, and other requirements as outlined in Promotion Criteria.
