The Envelope, Please…Residency Matches Announced for Graduating Medical Students
Friday, March 17th, 2017

Match Day 2017

Four years of training, fours years of waiting for the one moment that will chart the course to the rest of your career. That’s the life of a medical student. Their fate is determined by one small envelope on one very special day, Match Day.

Every year on the third Friday of March graduating students at each of 155 medical schools in the country gather to simultaneously learn the fate of their future—the results of the National Resident Matching Program, also called “The Match.” The Match results detail where they have “matched” for their residency training, out of the variety of locations they applied to.

This year, the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign Match Day was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 17 at the Champaign Country Club. There, 19 graduating students learned where they will spend the next three to six years of their lives gaining specialized medical training.
