Image Number 73 - Liver, alcoholic hepatitis

Arrow 1 shows an area of hypercellularity. The cells are inflammatory cells. They are for the most part neutrophils with some mononuclear leukocytes. Arrows 2 and 3 indicate swollen hepatocytes with clumped alcoholic hyalin (Mallory bodies). Arrow 4 highlights an area of swollen foamy hepatocytes. Compare them with normal hepatocytes. The Mallory bodies are formed of kerat&127;in filaments.
