Bacterial endocarditis of the left side of the heart can result in septic embolization of various organs through the arterial circulation. The emboli lodge in the small arteries of the organs and cause ischemia of the tissue and also seed the involved organ with bacteria. In this slide, we see that a portion of the brain has been infarcted, as highlighted by the white arrow.
