Sarcoidosis is a disease of unknown etiology. The typical lesion is the non-caseating granuloma. In this particular specimen, note the two multinucleated giant cells in the bottom right corner of the screen. There are also many epithelioid cells packed around the giant cells. There are numerous lymphocytes at the top of the specimen. Not seen in this slide, but seen in 60% of sarcoid specimens, are Schaumann bodies and asteroid bodies.
