Image Number 101 - Heart, nyocardium, DIC (Disseminated intravascular coagulation)

Note the thrombi in the arteries of this heart. Such thrombi are characteristic of DIC and are the major reason for the organ damage seen in this condition. DIC is also characterized by profound hemorrhage due to the consumptive coagulopathy that is the basis for DIC.
