Image Number 33 - Lung, caseous necrosis

This is a "golden" example of a caseating granuloma. Notice the central pink acellular area that is filled with the typical cheesy substance of caseous necrosis. There is a pale pink rim of epithelioid cells. Often there is also a peripheral rim of lymphocytes - not clearly seen in this slide.
