Image Number 48 - Liver, congestion, hyperemia

This is the cut surface of a gross specimen of a liver congested with blood (it has not been stained). The histological correlate is the so-called nutmeg liver. This type of liver is also known as cardiac liver because of its association with right-sided heart failure. There are also other etiologies.
