URBANA ATLAS OF PATHOLOGY

Image Number 53 - Liver, tumor embolus

An embolus is any mass that has been carried by the blood to a site distant from its formation. The majority of emboli arise from thrombi (thrombo-embolism). This case is an interesting example of pieces of a tumor which have embolized and lodged in two small arteries. The emboli are large, pink and cellular.
