The area containing glands at the bottom of the screen has stained green. The middle third of the screen is occupied by submucosa that has stained bright yellow. In the top 25% of the screen is part of the muscularis externa which has also stained green. When the Congo red stained amyloid is viewed under polarized light, it exhibits a green birefringence. Therefore, the amyloid is visible in this slide in the mucosa (around the crypts) and in the muscularis externa.
