Image Number 043 - Myocarditis, heart, viral, possibly adenovirus

This is a lymphocytic infiltrate of the myocardium, most likely due to a viral infection. The most common viral mediators of myocarditis are Coxsackie A and B, ECHO, poliovirus, and influenza A and B viruses. The myopathies occur days to weeks after the initial systemic infection.
